TWO DIRTY DOGS, ONE GOING OUT LIKE A BITCH

Latter, of course, is Arlen Specter. His days are numbered on one calendar and he is going out like a fraidy cat on this Alito thing, kissing Sammy's ass and for what? He is notionally pro-choice and a self-described moderate and could probably CAP (geddit?) off a semi-decent career with a bold exclamation point by putting Alito's feet to the fire in Specter's capacity as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Instead, he is shepherding this beast through. Absolutely loved the interchange with TK over the CAP letter. TK may have lost the procedural argument for the time being, but so what? Mary Jo Kopechne notwithstanding, he will be remembered FOREVER as a tough-guy and a real progressive, while Specter will be the answer to a trivia question: who was the last pro-choice Republican member of the United States Senate? By that's all down the road apiece. TK still has plenty of good years of fighting the good fight, partying his ass off, and enjoying his billions while Specter is roasting in the Christian Hell he has bought into AS A JEW.

The other dirty dog is a familiar target of this blog, David Brooks, Op-Ed columnist extraordinaire of the Tissue Of Lies. Essence of today's piece is that the Democrats don't "understand" Alito because in their rarified little salons and universities they've lost touch with the Blue-Collar "ethnic", Catholic folk. Bullshit. Don't want to make the logical argument here about which party is pro-union -- Republicans completely anti and Democrats so-so leaning anti. Oh, which party's in favor of police and fire unions? Don't want to make the logical argument about which party is in favor of middle-class tax cuts. Never mind all that. Let's get funky. Kelso spends plenty of his time in the company of White Ethnics. Kelso is a White Ethnic of sorts, although not the kind Brooks has in mind. By and large, no problem. Again, Kelso makes his decisions about friendships based upon the individual and commonality of interest. But can anyone imagine Brooks actually in the company of a working-class Italian-American or Irish-American? Does Brooks go to Coney Island with his kids during the summer? Elitist Kelso does. It's really fun. Does Brooks like to down a few in an Irish bar and watch sports? Hah! Does he gamble? Has he ever been to the Shore? Monmouth Park racetrack? Is there one gram of macho in Brooks? They don't come more lefty elitist than Kelso and K does all that crap. IT HAS NO RELEVANCE TO SAMUEL ALITO. He's a fascist freak.

Yet, Brooks does have a point. There is a reason why in the main progressives have a problem with "White Ethnics" at least in NYC. IN THE MAIN, in the absence of any significant number of bona fide White People in New York, the "White Ethnics" do an excellent job of deputizing as our retrograde, racist, right-wing crackers...with those punks Giuliani and Donahue of the Catholic League leading the charge. So, yeah, in general, well-to-do Whites of a progressive bent along with Brown people have a pretty serious problem with "White Ethnics". We can all have fun together, but there is plenty of political disagreement.

Again, this isn't why we don't like Alito. We don't like Alito because of his views. His ethnicity is absolutely irrelevant.
