DEBATE REVIEW & PREVIEW

La Clinton win it easy -- on cheer, turn of phrase, preparedness, and slightly less than her usual quota of bullshit. Wolf Blitzer didn't buy it, but her answer about "don't ask, don't tell" was not her usual horse-puckey. It was bad policy but necessary transitional one.

Edwards, Kucinich and Dodd were OK. Biden was insane, Obama scared to death, and Gravel was lost in the tall weeds.

About to watch the Clinton/Edwards/Obama "Faith and Politics" discussion. Back in a while.

*********************************************************************************
Jesus Christ, Kelso missed it! Got busy taking care of some work and forgot time zones. Saw the Paula Zahn recap and from all indications, it didn't go according to script(ure) at all. Obama grabbed the left -- shit, he needed to -- going for "faith" as his basis for a belief in peace and social justice, which would be what, exactly? Clinton and Edwards apparently both used a nice light touch, Clinton saying she often prayed for silly things like "to lose weight" and Edwards almost bragging about "sinning every day." From the accounts, it seemed like something of a draw. Obama's dying on the vine because he's lost most of his left-wing support, so he went against form and rope-a-doped instead of pounding away on his Evangelical bona fides, without subsequent comment. Edwards and Clinton knew they couldn't nail their colors to the Evangelical mast, and didn't, lest they risk giving Obama an early Christmas present.

As for the Republicans, Big-Strong Candy Crowley actually made a very good point last night. She said that, though the Lisping Fascist, leads the polls, his support is wafer-thin and there's an opportunity for any Democrat to "Swift-Boat" him, attacking him FOR 9/11 and the Lord knows there's a host of material out there with which to do so. Clinton doesn't even need to create an ersatz grass-roots group. The NY Firefighters' Union is ready, willing and able. Mr. New York Yankeeth ith going to make a big mithtake and go after Ron Paul again and will find dat it won't play twyth. It says here that Romney is the best candidate they have, although either of Brownback or Huckabee could do something if they could raise a dime. Fred Dalton Thompson won't be there, but he could win the next one on charm. The TV actor thing, though, is overcooked and there's no shortage of evidence of his corruption and legislative uselessness.

Kelso wrote it on another blog but if he were Ron Paul, Kelso would have been on the phone to Cindy Sheehan last week to invite her into his campaign as a liason to everybody else. He doesn't need her help on economic justice -- they are on opposite poles there -- but they make a natural fit in their fight against wars abroad and incipient National Socialism at home. After winning the Fox poll following the last Republican debate, Paul does have a puncher's chance at the nomination. The enormous publicity of bringing in Sheehan might bring in the money he needs to take a significant run at it. Take this a view from an atheist, but it really seems like Kucinich, Brownback, Huckabee and Paul are the only candidates who actually believe in God -- as in an invisible man in the sky who decides everything. We think Romney's very much down with Joseph Smith in a sincere way, as well. Kucinich and Paul, however, seem the least likely to impose their beliefs, faith, 3-card monte, whatever, upon the rest of us.

From the What-It's-Like-To-Be-Me Dept Volume II: This business with the floorman, El Marica -- no offense to gay men -- is becoming an ever-deepening problem. A $25 chip tip to him and a promise of a fresh start failed to accomplish anything. When Birmingham (UK) Numero Uno El Ciprioto asked Kelso for a couple of VIP passes to an upcoming trance show, Kelso said "no problem." El Marica --again, in unctuous English --"what about me?" And Kelso's response was ironic but not wholly unkind: (in Spanish, "you have the wrong Mr. Kelso. My father's the Marxist, not me. Take up problems of poverty with him."). So, a conclave of the younger players in the 25-50 No Limit was called to deal with this. Birmingham (UK) Numero Dos Sonny El Moreno, Pierre El Arabe Maronito, Eddie El Arabe Islamista, Chambito Isaac El Judio and Kelso all agreed that El Marica's behavior was unacceptable and something had to be done. Three split for Vegas for WSOP. And the only possible conclusion fell from the sky -- or at least from a woman who plays there regularly -- the floorman is acting this way because he's turned on by all of us and all of the testosterone. So, no amount of tipping's going to solve the problem and no one's in a big hurry to indulge him, so another strike may be necessary. As the Sala Privada De Poker turns!

From the Hardest-Way-To-Make-An-Easy-Living-Dept...right now at prevailing prices, some kind of correlation-and-probability adjusted portfolio of Clinton parlay or reverse of Dem Nom to outright, Romney for Republican Nomination, and small saver on Gore outright seems like the way to go. So, too, does minimum play on Robredo at 13/1 against Federer, but we've been bleeding in this one, so tread lightly. In the futures market, long Romney, Brownback, Huckabee and Paul all seem to have value for RepNom, with the idea of selling on first double with latter three and holding Romney to expiration.

Oh, Jeezie-Peezie, one more comment with regard to Kelso's heuristic device about America's flaws and its love of police shows. Cheer all you want when the Po-lice verbally abuse some poor soul in the TV show about the perils of "lawyering up." But take some advice from your Uncle: Always "Lawyer Up."

Kelso's Nuts love you.

On obama's belief- Kelso I think some people consider war in the context of their religious beliefs because their religions forbid war under certain circumstances.

For example, a Catholic must follow their "just war" doctrine in order for killing to NOT be considered murder and hence-sinful in their eyes.

Many denominations have such standards, even BUSH'S OWN FAITH. Members have even prevailed upon him to consider the morality of a war that does not meet their "moral guidelines".

Of course many people have forgotten their moral war standards just as they pick and choose everything else in their supposedly devout lives. But Im saying that for SOME people the religious case against war is a strong one, that they actually pay attention to.

Oh yeah Kelso I talk more about the political issues at the less girlie blog- Lose The Noose- but you are of course welcome everywhere and I do appreciate seeing your opinions.

With all the positive press Paul is getting in the last week it would not be surprising to see the smear machine out in full force by the party big wigs tonight. No way they let him gain momentum.

I am waiting for a debate between Thompson's trophy wife and Guilini's 3rd wife. Should be fun.

A word for religion that starts with a song on the new Fountains of Wayne, "Yolanda Hayes", about a woman at the DMV. That got me thinking about the DMV and how they may be slow, but never ask for a bribe. How does that compare with atheistic countries like Russia -- care to take a crack at their DMV? Where does the amazing moral fiber of working class Americans come from, textbook stories of GW and the cherry tree? Or do they get it in church? I honestly don't know.

Paul Johnson's history of America claims religion is the spine of our morality and thus respect for rule of law.

A combination of religion and a stable family unit is where the moral fiber of this country came from. How many people remember sitting around a table at dinner time with their parents discussing the day? In this day and age parents and ids are to busy to take time out together anymore.

It goes back to families moving from one income to two when the wife working. When that happened the home role was split in two and it hurt the male ego. You then saw a rise in the divorce rate and the psycho parenting that followed. Did you have to plan on having a kid 2 years early and jump through hoops in order to get into the right daycare and schools 20 years ago?

Clinton did very well - Gravel should be committed, Obama was flat out pandering and Biden acted like he was debating a bill on the floor.
Tonight, I was surprised by Huckabee. Other than him, I think the republican gene pool could use some chlorine.
Would anyone here take a Gore candidacy seriously?

Taking them in order:

(1) LILY: Anyone is entitled to believe or not what he or she cares to. That is not my problem with Obama. My problem with him is that -- ideologically speaking -- he is not really a very strong Democrat BECAUSE of his religious beliefs. He is not a really strong CANDIDATE because he lacks experience both as a politician and as a campaigner. Recent days have borne this out. It's very easy to prattle on about "an awesome God" and join up with the religious right when the press is giving you the flag salute. It's not so easy when you have 7 opponents ready to break you in half. Let's get serious about Obama, please. His "religion" may "inform his views of peace and justice" yesterday, but why then is his plan for Iraq more in line with Bush's (and perhaps Biden's) than with the remainder of the party? He's got a Lieberman 2004 problem on his hands and if he can get out of it, God Bless Him, but he'll never have my support.

In the steady-state, Obama is an Orthodox Christian much as Lieberman is an Orthodox Jew. Deutoronomy, hon. Of course, Obama's pro-war and has a Big Pharma, insurance company give-away health plan. The American children of Russian Jewish emigres have an English word for Orthodox Jews: "Christians."

Look, if Ryan doesn't fuck up an un-loseable election in Illinois in 2004 by screwing every pile of protoplasm that walked, and Daley and Durbin aren't scared to death of Jesse, Jr., Obama's still debating sewage treatment in Rock Island and you know that. I'm sorry your bubble was burst on Sunday night.

(2) LILY: My bad. I had thought Lose The Noose was dormant and Gynocracy Now! was your new spot.

(3) ANONYMOUS #1: Pre-Republican debate I would have agreed with you. Paul's performance tonight was weaker than church lemonade. I don't think it was a conspiracy or had anything to do with threats or anything like that. I think his age was showing and unfortuantely I think Giuliani scared him a bit last time. Not surprising. The Lisping Fascist is a scary guy. Take it from a Manhattan-ite born and raised.

Why stop at Thompson's trophy wife and Rudy-Not-The-Moolie's 3rd.That was a South Brooklyn and Staten Island slogan during NYC mayoralty race in 1989's 3rd, btw. Let's let all the significant others go for it, including THE BIG DOG.

(4) HARVEY. Going to respond here back-assward. I agree that by-and-large, the USA's civil service is pretty straight as compared with the that of the rest of the world. I also think that USA labor productivity is non-pareil, but I'll go with Deming, Gompers, and Tobin's points of view on that. The day Kelso has a nice word for Paul Johnson is the day you can cut his nuts off.

Now, as to the relative honesty of the USA's politicians and civil servants, I'm not sure that's necessarily good thing. What seems to happen is that when something corrupt happens in the States, it's huge. I've yet to be convinced that the "honest graft" approach of Tweed, "Honest" John Kelly and G.W. Plunkitt wasn't a better approach all around, at least as far as raising the standards of living in NYC of the Southern and Eastern European immigrants of the 19th Century is concerned.

Finally, "Yolanda Hayes." FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE have once again lived up to their own high standard and kick ass with new CD. You reckon Adam Schlesinger is as good as vintage Paul Westerberg? Bard College -- at least its Havurah! -- can close up shop today having birthed both STEELY DAN and F.O.W.

(5) ANONYMOUS #2. As to your first point, I'm Missouri on that one: SHOW ME. Not with stories about your sister Sue but with a proper hypothesis test at a 95% confidence level. Both of my parents are atheists although they arrived there via different avenues. They set high standards of achievement by word and example and spoiled us with love but not with money. But that's anecdotal bullshit. Again, prove your hyposthesis with rigor not by declaiming.

As for your second point, I kind of feel sorry for you if you really feel that way. "Male" ego as you seem to define it exists solely in two-families homes with a male-breadwinner and a stay-at-home-mom. That kind of family is probably a myth. My mother's mother was a school-teacher and my father's mother was a jack of all trades including being a security guard at Woolworth's. Again, anecdotal bullshit but it is a fucking fragile man whose ego depends on dominating a wife. Brains and gonads, my friend. All the rest follows. And that is what in forms Kelso's FEMINISM.

loudmouthbitch snuck in a comment whiie I responding to the five that were pending, and she deserves a response from me because wowee-zowee she AGREES with me not only about Dems but about Republicans, as well.

My only minor disagreement with LMB is with regard to Biden. The Senator from MBNA was not debating, he was TWEAKED!
