"NOT ANYMORE"

...DEAD BOYS was one of the songs FAIRLANE of JONESTOWN posted on his blog to Kelso, (The other was IGGY'S "The Passenger") in honor of yesterday's NUTS. Kelso is not too uptight to admit by the end of "Not Anymore" tears were streaming down his face.

This is as good a jumping-off point as any for our R.I.P. to Hilly Kristal, owner and spiritual force of CGBG/OMFUG. We discuss so much shit we're unhappy about because everyone's eaten so much shit these past 6 years and change. Hilly Kristal's passing is nothing happy, but it's nice at least -- like yesterday -- to write about someone admirable.

Kelso's 46 and grew up in NYC and was a CB's regular. Naturally, he's seen all the famous names early-career, but so has everyone else and the last thing we think Hilly would have wanted is a pissing contest over the telegraph wire as to who saw TELEVISION first. That's not what this is about. Best wishes and sorry for your loss to Mr. Kristal's family from this insignificant admirer. Mr. Kristal brought so much great music to the public on a shoestring, we can only hope the recent Vegas outpost has brought some lucre to his family and to whichever charities he favored.

Kelso will only mention three acts. The first he saw at CB's. The last. And the most frequently seen.

FIRST: NEON LEON
LAST: PIMPADELIC
MOST SEEN: BEN VAUGHN COMBO

Now, we throw it open to everyone else. Post any CBGB memories, stories, musings on punk and new wave, grunge, speed-metal, country-bluegrass-and-blues, the 70s, Lower Manhattan, or anything at all to do with music for that matter.

Fans of yesterday's post will be happy to know that the EURO MIXED DOUBLES TEAM of LABOUR MP CLARE SHORT/MIKE "THE STREETS" SKINNER awaits in late December. That is if they can get past the "MIDDLE EAST PEACE ENVOY" TONY BLAIR/BONO team. Or at least Kelso hears. But this is all up to Frank Warren and Don King to sort out.

Kelso's Nuts love you
