Unless you take a pretty broad interpretation of politics, this is a short break.
On Oscar night, here's one of my favorite set-pieces of all time. How can you not love Harvey Keitel, perico, booze, baseball betting, and two of the really unappreciated players of their time, Darryl Strawberry and Kal Daniels.
I include both men's baseball-reference.com pages. Please note a few things. The baseball part of the script was written in 1990 and Kal Daniels -- going by park-adjusted OPS+ -- actually had the better year than Strawberry did, 154 to 140, meaning Daniels was 54% better as a hitter than league average, Strawberry, 40%. Also, unless I heard wrong, the "N" in the piece is Daniels who grounds into the DP, not Strawberry, who's stranded on deck.
The whole movie is worth seeing a lot of times for a lot of reasons, mercy and redemption being at the top of the list.
This is for fun and to provoke, but I really don't feel like arguing about Dinkins versus Giuliani or misrepresentations of NY's "finest," or 9/11 any of that bullshit.
It's a good movie, perhaps one of the best BASEBALL movies ever made. Sure kicks the crap out of Field Of Dreams.
I love Harvey Keitel. I love Abel Ferrera. I love Darryl Strawberry. I love Kal Daniels. Josh Blum did a fantastic job on the baseball stuff. RIP, Zoe Lund.

The "Paul Calderon Rule" is in effect as well. Any movie that has Paul Calderon in a bit part is ipso facto a good movie.

That is such a cool movie, but I love Harvey best in "Taxi Driver."
It's like saying you like Matisse more than Cezanne, HM!
By the way, I think my friend, THE SCARLET KNIGHT OF MOSCOW, in one of the classic dating moves took a first date to see THE BAD LIEUTENANT!
