This is the place to go by the way, and this is not self-promotion. Kelso's comments are merely reasonably well-informed additions. These folks cover the waterfront with knowledge, style and bile. Best way to describe it is in Omaha terms: THE BOSS WRAP -- A-A-K-Q with 2x nut-flush draw. They deserve all the traffic that The Huffington Post gets and more money. Even if they sold out all the way nothing would change. They are that sharp.
Reminds Kelso of a mentor of his from long ago. The guy was a dyed-in-the-wool Marxist. Kelso asked him why. His response: "I've been wanting to sell-out for years but nobody's wanted to buy." The guy was asked by Tissue Of Lies to write an op-ed piece sometime around the end of the Vietnam war but he demurred, saying "I don't think your readers want to see the words 'Smash The State' in print and I want to come off as neither parlour Marxist nor brute."

a general comment, with nothing to do with the blog mentioned because i haven't visited it yet:
i'm absolutely all for knowledge and style. but i tend to believe that it's the extreme excess of bile and vitriol that will be the ultimate undoing of (both sides) of blogosphere.
Please. It's been a joy to be part of the experience. I don't remember who said this speaking of "youth" but "[EXCELLENCE] must be served. Frequently. With chestnuts." And your gaff is excellent. That's the word. Excellent.
When I started doing this two years ago there were very few unorthodox blogs. I'm not sure how it's come about exactly but I've noticed a sea change over the last few months. The flavor has gotten so good. There seems to be an explosion of unconventional thinkers who study, read, research and can WRITE. There was a definite void of places that could somehow knit together sex and politics and finance and sports and social and racial and cultural issues with some anger and humor. And somehow carry it all of with a very warm and courteous vibe. There's a bunch now, but your crew is the gold standard.
I'd love to know the history of your flop. How did you all meet? How do you make disparate and strong voices blend so seamlessly? How do make Old School seem so avant-garde? I tried like hell and never could.
Been a long time since I was in school but I'm describing "modernism" the official way that scholars, not media bullshit artists, do. I'll spare the facile comparisons.
Thanks for giving me a place to rest my weary bones while I'm too busy to keep my own site current.

Shame, shame. You're the fucking J.D. Salinger of this shit. You were one of the best and you gave it up. I know what it was like. I felt it, too, back then. It sucked out loud. We were baying at the moon.
I remember your work on the Atlantic Yards. There wasn't a single journalist in the City Of New York who was as informed as you were and who provided as much detail as you did on AnitaXanaxNow. And that was just one example of how strong your game was.
The flavor's gotten great now. You've been punching way under your weight for too long in that sandbox with the kiddies.
When I say that these folks over HELL'S TABLOID are unconventional, I'm not whistling Dixie and that is a deeply finessed pun for which I'm awarding myself 3 bells. There's no shortage of caustic commentary but the range is amazing. There's a Republican woman linked up over there who can bring it, for example. And it's not the usual rehash of O'Reilly and Hannity. She's mad strong. I've never seen any "Love it or leave it" shit on her blog. She presents a REPUBLICAN point of view thoroughly and cogently. And she's just a link over there as I am. The main crew is sick. Like in the Canadian hockey sense not the pathological sense. Vitriol isn't a bad thing. It's a good thing if there's research and scholarship behind it. Obama's the guy who doesn't like vitriol, remember?
And this is why you have to get out of that playground, lace 'em up, and get back in the game. My QED: who was more vitriolic than James Joyce? There's so much Irish pride over in that playground and so much anger and VITRIOL but it's re-fried O'Reilly. THEY DON'T KNOW WHO JAMES JOYCE WAS! They love being Irish-American so much and they're so into politics yet they don't know who "HONEST" JOHN KELLY WAS! Never mind PARNELL or DEVALERA.
I'd bet a lung the financial analyst over HELL'S TABLOID has a fairly decent opinion on Joyce, Tammmany, and Dublin politics and I'm basing that upon nothing other than the financial scholarship I've seen.

I'll be checking out Hell's tabloid as soon as I shamelessly entreat you to check out my latest blog entry. I worked so fucking hard on it, staying up until 2 am last night, that I can't stand the thought of my favorite political blogger not seeing it.
