Was it really a YEAR ago that I was watching the early part of the marathon in Fort Greene and the latter portion on 5th by Mount Sinai Hospital? How time flies when you're almost having fun.
No, I had not seen that item. I have VERY mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, I was a member of that club in Flatiron, so I'm glad I was nowhere near the NY club scene when it happened. Must have been terrifying. A guy called me last week and said somebody tried to rob the Genoa a week before. Now, why ANYONE would want to rob a private club on Houston and LaGuardia is beyond me. I mean how stupid could a person be? There are only two possible outcomes both are bad: 1) the cops catch you 2) the owners of the Genoa catch you. And depending on which cops catch you, (2) or the system or some version of both are likely to come down on you with tremendous force. On the other hand, when club poker is just a normal part of NYC by night, it's cool. Now, Bloomberg who has by and large been mellowish on the thing will have to close them all or risk being labelled as the white guy who "re-lost" NYC after Adolf Giuliani Schickelguber had "re-claimed" it for Mr Charlie and Whole Foods.
I meant to ask u about that poker murder too. In fact, I overheard a guy at the barber on saturday talking about a game he was setting up in Lindy, bragging about how many tables he would have going. I should've called the cops as a goof, but that's not my way. He'll probably get cleaned out by the end of the night. What that they say about a fool and his money?
I know the Lindenhurst folks, too. They're not bad people. If anyone said something indelicate, it was only gallows humor arising out of stress. One of those guys managed places in the city and the guy just doesn't have any capacity for malice at all. I think the other folks behind the Lindenhurst site were or are working in Hauppage. I never made it to that club but I heard it was cool
