And the band played Waltzing Mathilda

I've put this one up here before, but as the Lion-Of-Southeast-Asia is likely to be the Republican nominee and to be fair is carrying the injuries and damage of time and battle, it's a good reminder that maybe WAR IS NOT THE FUCKING ANSWER. AND THAT'S NOT FUCKING INCOMPATIBLE WITH REAL-- NOT SHOCK DOCTRINE -- CAPITALISM.

SUCH a great song. I remember when you encouraged me to get the CD, Rum, Sodomy and the Lash.

I saw Shane MacGowan on the Henry Rollins show a couple of days ago. I'm sure it was a repeat. However, it was REALLY, REALLY sad. He was totally wasted, could barely stand up. And his teeth are almost all gone. He kind of seemed like a dead man walking. I just wanted to cry.

Oh, and I just found this on Wikipedia:

"The Pogues were founded in King's Cross, a district of North London, in 1982 as Pogue Mahone—pogue mahone being the Anglicisation of the Irish póg mo thóin, meaning 'kiss my arse'."

AXN: "Rum, Sodomy & The Lash" is indeed a strong brew. You'd probably need to pick and choose tracks from NICK CAVE, COP SHOOT COP, and TOWNES VAN ZANDT to find f10 darker songs.

The KIng's Cross thing suprises me because I would have bet a lot they came from Liverpool. Maybe Wikipedia's got it wrong and they do come from Liverpool. None of them are/were native Londoners and the Irish connection certainly screams Liverpool which is a short ferry ride from Belfast.
