The rules: each contestant must make a selection in every bowl game with a minimum of 1/2 unit. Contestants will have 30 units to allot among their top ten Bowl Games. Top tens will be allowed a maximum of 5 units and a minimum of 1 unit. The 1/2 unit play will be added on. Constestant may not play more than 5 units on any side. For example, neither K nor L may play 5 units on LSU -4-105 or 5.25/5 and 2 units on LSU-184 on money line or 5/9.40. K or L may play, however, the 5 units on LSU either on split line, money line or a mix, plus up to 4 units on the game total. To quote Jim Bouton, "if you understand that, please see your psychiatrist."

I like the silly corporate names because I always listen for the Clement Freud (English racing writer) Effect. It always used to scald his nuts when the Channel 4 coverage of the Epsom Derby or Cheltenham Gold Cup would make sure to call it the "Tripleprint Epsom Derby" or "Boots Chemists Cheltenham Gold Cup" as if those races had been named that by King George three centuries earlier. I'll get the Spanish-speaking announcers but it's still fun to think about the corporate-shilling. The most fun of all, however, is that it will be a Kelso family affair with Kelso, Kelso Sr, Kelso-mere, and Kelso Jr ALL together for every minute of lo mejor del futbol universitario estadounidoense.

And if anyone needs to know why the trophy for this handicapping contest is called The Barry Switzer Vase, he or she needs to be checking for different blogs than Kelso's Nuts. Barry Switzer quite simply is the coolest coach that's ever been. He won an NCAA title with Oklahoma and very nearly won a Super Bowl with the Dallas Cowboys. In 1984, when Sooner tailback Marcus Dupree was the Michael Vick or more appropriately the Daunte Culpepper or Ricky Williams of his era, Switzer -- head coach of OKLAHOMA! -- protected the kid and called all the crap out for what it was: racist bullshit. He was always a mellow guy with his players and had a very dry wit. He was very active and may still be so with the Oklahoma Democratic Party. He is not one of the good guys. He is one of THE GREAT GUYS.
