She covers the waterfront here, except for one very important longshoreman's nook: The Tissue-Of-Lies Book Review. McGrath will be a "white-bar-of-soap" in Hell.

seriously considering cancelling the NYT subscription -- one i have had for over 30 years! (yes since i was a teenager)
i will miss the crossword puzzle, which is not on line
Did the same. I like their crossword puzzles, too, but there are plenty of ways to get them. The Tissue Of Lies may even have a "crossword only" service. I was a subscriber to that in 2005.
Moreover, there are millions of crossword fans out there with sites and blogs and what have you. I like the "puns and anagrams" and "cryptic puzzles" best anyway and there is no shortage of freebies of those out there.
I subscribe to the crossword for about $40 per year. My other subscription (premiere, I think), was discontinued when the Times decided to put ads on the pages rather than collect another $40 per year.
I actually do like a balance, but I'd love to have Chomsky in there.
The LA TIMES in the Otis-Chandler era did the sensible thing. Each day they presented a "Column Left" and a "Column Right". Chomsky, Cockburn, and Scheer were frequent contributors left. Horowitz, Connerly and Noonan were frequent contributors right. Libertarians like Virginia Postrel and mainstream Democrats like Mulholland were given space in the middle of the page. I don't recall anyone objecting to that format. I enjoyed it, to be sure.
So, what does the roster of the Tissue Of Lies op-ed look like now? On the left, there's Herbert, Krugman and Rich. On the right, there's Brooks, Friedman, Kristol and Keller. Safire's guest spots are hard right. And I certainly call Dowd and Kristof center-right.
Rich was to be exiled but for popular demand.
If I were Bob Herbert or Paul Krugman, I'd be listening for footsteps about now.
Off topic comment... I did it Kelso, the long promised abortion post. Thanks- I never forgot that we discussed that and you encouraged me to do this, not even knowing what I would say.
FranIAm:
You worry too much, bubeleh! Your abortion post was both soundly reasoned and inclusive.
Expect hosannahs not brickbats.
i will post my letter to Keller later today or tomorrow
please let me know what you think...
