If I Were Fairlane, I'd Write "Drink Up, Bitches!"

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080314/ap_on_el_pr/obama_pastor

I was told this was going to be a problem for Obama last summer. That there was some pretty weird church he was going to and that he, himself, had been testifying not against Whites of course but against gays. It seemed to make sense but I didn't give him any chance at all. I figured Clinton for the nuts, was worried about a possible Gore entry after some crew in England bet a million sterling on Gore knocking him down from 40/1 to 6/1.

Right now, I don't care one whit about Reverend Wright or Farrkhan or whatever. Homophobia is completely fucked up and any homophobes have to look at themselves in the mirror and KNOW that they're headed for hell, so what do I give a crap? They're assholes to me, anyway. And any homophobe ipso facto is a punk. I really don't care one way or the other about Louis Farrakhan or Black Nationalism or any of that. None of it offends me or affects me in the slightest. I pay it no mind at all. Everybody is free to feel pride in whatever. I'm not anybody's Zionist. I think they're pricks headed to their own version of hell as well. But the whole thing has nothing to do with me.

What I deal with is my position in the futures market. I'm right where I want to be in one sense...I'm net long Clinton taking a price which gives me the best of it because even before Reverend Wright hit the papers the second time, neutralizing Ferraro as an issue, and making PA, IN, KY, FL, and MI likely KO wins for Clinton, it was always headed for Denver and the courts. The problem is that I'm a little overweight my side and need to unwind but couldn't last night at Obama-430. Heard that somebody had taped a Reverend Wright sermon and sent it around the righty blogosphere. Consensus among the players in the market (not the voters) was that this was the killer McCain commercial. Obama-300 and dropping. I may wait a little longer and see if I can't get out at -150. Maybe by then I'll re-fall in love with my side. Who knows? Such is the life of the player.

Thus far, I've been impressed with Obama's ability to hold together this strange coalition of far-right Republicans with the Fundamentalist Christianity all the way to far left Progressives because of an appearance of being the dove in the race. Meanwhile, Clinton's done well with loyal Democrats and Latin voters across the nations of origin. Lefties like me who are not for Obama pay this Reverend Wright stuff no mind because we know that it's all professional politics and whatever. White, suburban independents and Far Right White Christians who have given Obama his delegate lead in the Red States don't take such a casual attitude to it as I do. Clinton is destroying Obama among registered Democrats. And whereas last night I was almost willing to unwind at any price and eat it, right now I'd almost make her a true favorite to win it.

If Obama can find a way to find get both Reverends Wright and Robertson's dentures out of his ass, I'll salute him. I'll do what I have to to minimize my losses and hope that Obama's formidable mind is taking this as a lesson as well and if he gets the nomination will come to understand that he was not only a great campaigner, but he was also very lucky, and that Democrats and a DEMOCRATIC message count. I'm passing or voting for McKinney but in the face of a McCain commercial featuring the stylings of Reverend Wright, Obama's going to need those Latin, Blue-Collar, Undeducated, Union voters he was willing (perhaps with strategic reason) to toss during the nomination season.

Buena suerte para todos.

And on in the Latin vein, viddy:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080314/wl_afp/ecuadorusspaincolombiadiplomacy

This is getting weird but I've expected nothing less. It's going according to script. Any Democrat or sane Republican should take a lesson here. That's right, I'm writing about Reid and Pelosi. This is how you do it. You just tell the guy to get fucked, do your thing and see what happens. You don't reason with a bully. You hit him between the eyes. "Post-racial?" "Post-partisan?" Get fucked sideways. "Who's ready on day one to be Commander-In-Chief?" Eat shit. Be what you are or quit. The DNC budget is probably 50% of the Ecuadorean GDP. You think Rafael Correa's scared? And look at you two little mice. The both of you make me sick.

And there's this little matter of Bear Stearns...but who cares about Bear Stearns and that the only one customer for dollars in the whole world is the Federal Reserve Bank Of The United States Of America when you've got "yes, we can," "hope," and "VIETNAM WAR HERO...VIETNAM WAR HERO...VIETNAM WAR HERO...KILL EM ALL AND GET THE CHILDREN, TOO."

Calling Admiral Fallon, please come back. All is forgiven. This son of a Navy vet is begging. Or at least endorse and TEACH either Clinton or Obama a thing or two. I'm a cynic but innocence sneaks through now and then.

But Jim Carville did ask a key question on Larry King the other night. "Which part do Obama supporters hate about Bill Clinton, the peace or the prosperity?"

kelso, you don't care about Farrakhan or Wright? But you stand up for gay rights.

Farrakhan is an anti-gay guy. Of course, he's so detestable that homophobia is lost in the sauce of his long list of hates.

Blacks will support Obama no matter what. He could have been on OJ's jury and voted to acquit and still be in good shape. He'll be forgiven for his bad judgment by Democrats. Maybe enough Democrats to win the nomination. It's still too close to call.

Obama has already tried to improve Wright's image by mentioning his service in the Marine Corps. But that tidbit is good for a backfire. You can be sure a lot of former Marines will denounce Wright and anyone who thinks well of him.

The question is whether McCain wants to mobilize forces against Obama now or later. If he had a choice, would he rather face Hillary or Obama. I think he'd knock down Obama with either or both of his broken arms tied behind his back. I think he'd rather face Obama who's a sure loser in a national race.

Bear Stearns? You mean J.P Morgan Bear Stearns, don't you?

Government assisted takeover?

I'm not sure if I can recall the corporate history of this bank but:

Chase Bank + Manhattan + Chemical + Manufacturers + Hanover + J.P. Morgan, and now Bear.

Take a break from all this depressing political stuff, Kelso, and read my latest blog post. Maybe you can dissuade me from my path to self-destruction.
(Sorry about the "tag." I just needed an excuse to talk to you.)

Here's the thing that White folks don't get, but Jews do. No matter what, Farrakhan is Black and will always have seat at the table in the Black Community as will Obama, as will his minister. Just as Lieberman will always be a Jew at the end of the day they will not desert him, no matter how fucked-up his political swagger is. The majority of the free world is anti-gay, anti-jew, anti-women, anti anything that ain't White Male or Islamic male. I belong to the same Church as Obama and let me tell you his minister has been in the stuggle for well over 40 years, he can say any fusking he wants... he has paid his dues and had earned the right to speak to his congregation. Is he right?, who the fuck is ever right? Should Obama pay for his Minister's mis-speak? No. But who cares? it makes for interesting news on the networks!

I am not homophobic and quite frankly think those who are have issues that they are not willing to own..but I digress.

I think the notion of race in America is making folks afraid to look in the mirror, cause when they do, they see Ms Ferraro. A well meaning well educated, rich White woman. Who is making everyone think about what she said as not so bad and can't understand why all the fuss, its true isn't it? This is scary to me that folks don't even know racism in the new millenium. Can't recognize it if slapped them in the fucking head.

Uh-Oh I am feeling like Kelso! Who by the way is my new love!

There are far more effective ways to be in favor and in support of "gay rights" than being anti-Farrakhan. I'd say number one would be HAVING GAY FRIENDS WHO SHARE YOUR INTERESTS is the jumping-off point and listening is the next step and writing what you can and educating where you can and backing the causes that get to the problem. I've given money to ACT-UP. I wouldn't give a penny to the LOG CABIN REPUBLICANS. Or to Larry Craig.

I understand that Farrakhan is a big problem for you because of ooh-woo the "anti-semitism." Well, you well know that I consider PNAC, AIPAC, CUFI, and most Zionists to be anti-semites with a differnt colored shirt on. Besides, if Felix Rohatyn was cool with Farrakhan, who am I to judge? I pay Farrakhan no mind. He's not an issue for me because he doesn't affect my life at all. The Israeli government has had a malign effect on me and other Israelis of my acquaintance with the Chandler decision and the accompanying statute passed by the Knesset. END OF STORY ON THAT.

On Bear, these things happen. Thorstein Veblen's prediction (hope?) of a Middle-Class Revolution in which technology got so sophisticated that only the "operators of the machines" could lead never came to pass. Disclaimer: one of my very best friends ever was the head of derivatives risk management there but tragically for his family, very sad for me, and bad for the company, he died way too young in 1999.

Z: I'll be by your spot soon.

Torrance:

Perfesser, the country of my birth needs many many many more TS's to be TEACHING, though I don't criticize your choice. You are a talented fiction writer and entrepreneur. But you always see things clearly and you have a knack for teaching, too.

All three of the potential "leaders" of the great United States are doing a little dance to make the public feel like there's a vast differece. The only differences are to be found in political skill and gamesmanship not in ideology. Stay inside and stay dry.

Fairlane:

For the third cycle running! Which is why I support you for Emperor. And why if I get the right price on McCain, I'm long. I'd never vote for the guy in 1000 lifetimes, but at the right price I'm getting some money into play. LIVING WELL IS THE BEST REVENGE.

LOVEBABZ: I'm blushing. But I really like what you've written here. My disagreements are minor. The GREATER Jewish community may well take pride in Lieberman, but that doesn't mean I have to. The Arab-Persian-Turkic-Slavic Muslim male is no more monolithic than the White Christian male is. I agree with those of compassion and talent and disagree with devils. There is no shortage of White Christian men or "Muslim" men who are hated by the majority of the world. But it's class-based. I present for your inspection the Meth Dealer and the poor Palestinian.

Once you start to feel like ME, LOVEBABZ, start to look for a good psychiatrist. Fairlane had some kind of master-plan in getting me mixed-in to the scene at RDB. And lo and behold, what do we have here, a 100% no bullshit, no PC, discussion. Go figure. These words "Black" "Jew" "Muslim" "Gay" are descriptive not normative. That so hard for everybody up there to understand?

Lovebabz, I completely understand what you say about my friend Kelso. SOMETIMES I don't agree with him. MOST OF THE TIME I do. But one thing you can ALWAYS count on with Kelso is that he's going to say EXACTLY WHAT HE THINKS and he doesn't give two shits if it's not "politically correct." And the thing with Kelso is that he's so intellectually well rounded that even if you don't agree with him, or find him harsh, you MUST admire the breadth of his reach on topics from 'da Mets to Mailer. He's highbrow and lowbrow and everything in the middle.

Ha ... I got carried away there for a minute.

Bear Stearns is close to selling itself to JP Morgan for about $20 a share, which I think values the company around $2 billion.

That means the BS operations are worth very little. The BS building on Madison Avenue is worth over $1 billion. Although I'm not sure about the details of its ownership.

However, if the $2 billion includes the building, JPM has gotten itself quite a deal.

KELSO'S NUTS said...

No_slappz: It's a sorrowful thing in a way because Bear had been a well-run company willing to try new things and had a good HR policy. I really have to do more reading to find out the genesis of the fall. My impression of JP based upon friendships with very bright people who worked there in the 80s and 90s is that it had supplanted Salomon Brothers as the premier trading bank and had much of what was good about Old Salomon's corporate culture -- the emphasis on MAKING MONEY, the collegiality, the competition, the recognition of the value of brains, but had begun to "Yank-ify" by the mid-late 90s. There were "committees" and "procedures" and people with no experience moving money were elevated above those who did, an the place whether in NYC, London or various places in Asia, just stopped being "fun."

no_slappz said...

kelso,

Did I say $20 a share for Bear Stearns?

Make that Two Bucks A Share. Two Bucks!

Two Hundred and fifty million for the whole she-bang. If that includes the building, then JP Morgan was paid to haul the company away.

This is bad news.
