Time For The Hydrox Challenge Part 2...AND A REVISED VP CHOICE BOOK

From the good folks at http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.wordpress.com/

We left off with #76, I believe. Again, I'll use the codes "L" for LIKE or DISAGREE WITH BLOG, "H" for HATE OR AGREE WITH BLOG, "I" for INDIFFERENT, "DK" for "don't know about it" or "other"

91) SAN FRANCISCO. "H" For much of the reasons set forth on their blog. Everything's too expensive and the people are really, relaly materialistic

90) DINNER PARTIES "I"

89) ST PATRICK'S DAY "H" I grew up Jewish, in lower Manhattan. Need I say more?

88) HAVING GAY FRIENDS: "L" Nothing stupid about this at all. Gay friends are usually up for hanging out any time day or night. Having a very close gay male friend of my age, As a straight guy this was the shit. We used to be crazily successful at being each others' wing-man in gay clubs. As he tended to prefer being a "top," my surprising straight presence in his circle gave him a fine choice of femmy guys. My being a straight guy with a close gay friend put all my bona fides in place and I got my choice of the fag-hags. I learned to play my edges where I could in the Jewish community. Besides, isn't having more friends better than having fewer friends, anyway? Like, as in kind of a "general rule." Oh, well. I blame the church. Homophobia on display? Que sorpresa! Not my problem. Folk will have to figure this one out for themselves.

87) OUTDOOR PERFORMANCE CLOTHES: "I" I live near the equator and I never skiied nor snowboarded so, winter clothes for me were for warmth when I lived in the Northeast. They never struck me as much of a fashion statement.

86) SHORTS "L" Pretty comfortable in hot weather. Anyone in a hurry to swim, play basketball or box in long pants?

85) "THE WIRE" "H" I am represented in the USA by a general practice law firm known best for its work in criminal defense, so I hate cop shows and would never root for the cops or prosecutors.

84) T-SHIRTS "L" Very comforatable. A GAP pocket T is also great for I-pod and cellphone at poker table.

83) BAD MEMORIES FROM HIGH SCHOOL "DK" Was more of less one of the "popular kids.' I had fun and did well academically and did a lot of drugs. Very few bad memories from HS.

82) HATING CORPORATIONS "I" This is a mixed bag. As capitalism is the system that obtains, it's kind of hard to "hate corporations" ipso facto. There are good ones and bad ones. Unprofitable and profitable ones.

81) GRADUATE SCHOOL "L" I loved graduate school. I had studied mostly literature and drama as an undergrad but got an MBA with a concentration in Finance and Stats so none of it was unpleasant; even the boring stuff was "new." [NB: Further evidence of the anti-intellectual streak that runs through the "StuffWhitePeopleLike" blog. Further reason no African-Amerian is EVER doing my taxes or PERFOMING SURGERY ON ME. Not that it will be a factor because while there are plenty of people with brown skin where I live, there are no phonus-balonus "African Americans." I happily employ a woman with a cocoa-brown complexion to do my taxes and would have no problem with a Panamanian surgeon of "Negro" (pronounced "NEGG-ro, wiseasses!) features saving my life on the operating table.]

80) IDEA OF SOCCER "L" I enjoy watching and betting on it. I'm too old and don't have enough wind to play it, anymore. When I was younger I was a terrible goal-hanging forward.

79) MODERN FURNITURE "I" If comfortable, fine. If uncomfortable, not fine.

78) MULTILINGUAL CHILDREN: "L" I spoke two languages growing up. I'd like my son to speak more. Where I live, it's really good to speak Spanish, English, Arabic, Hebrew, Mandarin and Hindi. My father speaks 5 languages. [NB: The anti-intellctual streak grows yet wider and deeper. If I were back living in the States, I guess I'd have to think long and hard before hiring an "African -American" electrician or plumber. Because anybody who takes pride in only knowing one language and wants the same for their kids has to be pretty thick. No problem whatsoever hiring an Afro-Carribean or Brown-Skinned Latin-American to do my taxes, medical care, electrical wiring or plumbing.]

77) MUSICAL-COMEDY "I"

Top figure: 6 "LIKES", 3 "HATES", 5 "INDIFFERENTS", 1 "DON'T KNOW"

Pretty much in keeping with the previous results. Not the Whitest guy in the world. Not the Blackest. Small lean to White, which makes sense because I am White with a dark complexion and an urban upbringing. I'll put up bottom (running) figure when I get around to it.

Kelso, I think I'll do my voting here....

91) "L" - Only been there once, but had a great time -- even if it was the touristy thing. I felt like I was back in Hong Kong except that most of the signage was in English.

90) "I" - I can take them or leave them depending on the company.

89) "H" - As do my wife and brother-in-law who are both of Irish descent. The hate stems from the people who use the day to consume mass quantities of alcohol. Why wait until March 17?

88) "L" - Loved hanging out with my dear-departed brother George and my ex-boss Frank. They pull no punches and make no bones about their fabulousness. It's a quality to admire.

87) "H" - Style is all but dead in my neck of the woods. Jeez, I can't tell you enough how crazy I get when I see some people in sweat suits that have no business wearing them.

86) "L" - I'm with you on this one. You know how hot summers can get here.

85) "I" - I watched the show a few times. It just never caught my interest.

84) "L" - Put a star on this one. I own more t-shirts than I care to admit. In fact, I still have my NY Knicks t-shirt from a giveaway game I attended where they played The Bulls.

83) "I" - I have bad ones and good ones. They've averaged out. It's unfortunate that I there's no real room for nuance here because I could see myself voting "L" here, too.

82) "I" - I work for a pretty big one and I'm not one to shit where I eat. But then, again, there are some firms that I will not work for...ever.

81) "DK" - Never been. Don't know if I ever will.

80) "I" - I can take it or leave it. I found myself watching it alot when I was overseas, but because I'm American and what's familiar to me is baseball, basketball, hockey and football, soccer seems to get lost in that sauce.

79) "I" - Same as above. Some people know how to decorate tastefully with new furniture. Some people, like me, just botch that shit up.

78) "L" - I can speak two languages, but only get to practice one. My kids all study my mother tongue in school, so I suppose I can take comfort in that.

77) "L" - Generally, I do like them, but I give the nod to "L" with an "I" leaning. Not every comedy can be converted into a musical.

My tally is 6 "Likes", 2 "Hates", 6 "Indifferents" and 1 "Don't know."

I am mixed on St. Patrick's Day. My family (on my mother's side) being proud (yet drunken) Irish and my mother's childhood been straight out of Six Feet Under (her grandfather was the undertaker for their small village near Scranton, PA ... and her life was pretty much one of the weekly Irish wake in her home).

I love, as well, Celtic Folk music (The Clancy Brothers, The Chieftans, Planxty, and, of course ... latter day Celts, The Pogues).

I refuse, for the most part, to acknowledge my own Irishness because it's turned into such a major stereotype. I know the native Irish laugh hysterically at the American concept of "we're all Irish" ... it's embarrassing.

Which is why even though I can't stand my Croatian father, I always tell people, when asked, that I am Croatian and Hungarian (from my paternal grandmother's side).

before i do the HLIDK

the odds on clinton are much higher
as is Sibelius.... dont think he can pick a woman now that the race thing is a major issue. Kaine is good, as is Mark Warner. where is Webb?

McCain -- no way on Crist -- wont be able to stop the gay rumors. killer in that party. and i just dont buy Rice-a-Roni. Petraeus is a big risk because if Iraq explodes after he is picked, he is radioactive. No Bush, no how. Mel Martinez is an interesting choice.

D-CAPny: One of my cardinal rules is that I DON'T HUSTLE FRIENDS. And you are my friend. If you weren't my friend, I'd say "let's have a 'Chinese Auction' over email or IM or skype and come to a no-vig challenge bet agreement." Wherever we ended up contracting, I'd have the best of the price plus any number of outs with which to hedge.

But since you are my fried, I'm not going to do that.

I haven't heard any rumors about Charlie Crist being gay. You may have him confused with Texas governor Rick Perry. But even if your steam on Crist is good, it hardly matters. Karl Rove made Harvey Feirstein seem butch and that was never a problem for them. Dole had no problem choosing a gay man as his running mate. He wasn't going to beat Bill no matter whom he chose, but I thought he made the right choice with Kemp. To me, Crist seems like the perfect choice because the Republicans need Florida desperately and Crist has so much respect on both sides of the aisle and helps a bit on the "heartbeat away" question.

I also think that there has been SOME but hardly enough evolution in America's overall feeling about "the queers." And New York was always pretty cool. I could easily see Quinn or Duane as the next mayor. Nice country you have there, by the way, on that regard. How is it that ooh-ooh Panama with it's "machismo" and Cathoic Church allows gay marriage?

RICE-A-RONI! I love it. My new favorite nickname for her. And I'll always give you the credit. I spelled out already why she'd be a good choice for McCain. Agree or disagree but don't try to bet me. I will absolutely undress you on any kind of a bet no matter how much the best of it you think you have. I was ready to let No_slappz lay me $20,000 to my $10,000 that Clinton wouldn't be elected President. Even though he was more RIGHT than I was, I had such a price advantage that I would have scalped it elsewhere, paid myself something and free-rolled Clinton for $1000 or so. I've made a good living for many years in money and markets.

I agree with you about Petraeus but he has such huge approval ratings and as the Republicans have already shown that they can spin the war any way they like, I doubt Petraeus can become toxic. Most of the value of THE FIELD bet is compressed into people slightly off the radar screen like: Eric Cantor, Goodlatte, Souder, Chabot, and Myrick. Or, perhaps, a Golden Oldie like Powell.

I also disgree about Jeb. The MSM likes to float this "dynasty" bullshit like there have never been political and business dynasties in the country before. I only push Jeb down the list because of the chance that the name could hurt, but Jeb governed much like Crist has. Was pretty popular and effective. Not my cup of tea, of course, because I don't care for Republicans.

On to Obama...I don't understand why choosing a woman has anything to do with the race issue? Both Clinton and Sibelius would be very helpful to Obama in a campaign. Kaine, of course, is the favorite because he's a popular White centrist governor from a Purple State. The party can let Kaine go because he's only the governor. They can't gamble a Virginia senate seat. Webb's in already and Mark Warner's got like 80% in the polls for this November's Junior Senate race. The Republicans CAN gamble Mel Martinez's seat because he'll likely lose it to Wasserman-Schmitt or Wexler next time if he doesn't take a McCain cabinet appointment. Either way, Florida will be much Bluer in short order.

THE FIELD bet for the Democrats has more value because of how strong the party is now. Obama or Clinton could also to with: Breseden, Strickland, Vilsack, Dayton, Napolitano, Clark, (Rep) Salazar, Chandler, Etheridge, Wasserman-Schmitt and many, many others including a big surprise like Admiral Fallon.

Anita: I have nothing against the Irish or Irish-Americans. I just was always told by my parents to stay away from the parade and the same rules apply with my son. It's too crazy. Good point about the Irish of Ireland versus Irish-Americans. Analogous to Israelis versus AIPAC.

I also have nothing against Croats even though I should given WWII. I consider bygones to be bygones. I certainly have no problems with Germans, Austrians, Spanish or Italians.
